Eligibility for hospice care includes a prognosis of six months or less and a certified prognosis by a primary care or hospice physician. Hospice may be covered by Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance, and the Veterans Administration.

Who Is Eligible for Hospice Care?
Ambercare Hospice provides comprehensive physical, emotional, and spiritual care for people faced with an advanced or life-limiting illness.
Guidelines for Hospice Eligibility:
- Patients with a prognosis of six months or less if the disease runs its normal course
- Hospice can continue after six months as long as the patient continues to meet eligibility criteria
- Prognosis is certified by a primary care or community physician and hospice physician
- Patient and family desire palliative care as opposed to curative treatment

Our team works towards helping terminally-ill people and their families cope with their situation. We provide compassionate and competent care, which are coupled with personalized treatments so that your patients and their loved ones are assured of comfort during difficult times.
Grieving is a necessary part of coping when a death occurs.
Each person handles death differently when it comes to the loss of a loved one. This is why we offer hospice care in New Mexico to help patients and their loved ones face end-of-life challenges. Our support programs enable individuals to deal with the stages of grief that come with the passing of their family members or close friends.
Ambercare Hospice offers grief support services to patients and their loved ones during the dying process and for a period of 13 months following the death of the patient. These services are confidential and provided at no charge to individuals or groups. Sessions can be held in the Ambercare office or at an individual’s home depending on that person’s comfort level. Ambercare’s staff is specially trained in end-of-life and grief issues and is committed to walking with patients and families through the end-of-life journey.
Support groups are offered several times a year. These groups are open not only to the survivors of Ambercare patients, but also to anyone who has lost a loved one, including members of the general community. In addition, Ambercare hosts several memorial services each year to honor patients who have passed away, which provide a time of fellowship and closure for their loved ones.
There are always healthy ways to cope with loss. Our recovery support groups and programs are a means by which families can openly express their sentiments and cope with the sorrow of losing a precious loved one. Our goal is to provide a safe environment where you can find hope and begin the healing process.
